Sanpete County Commissioners will hold a public hearing to consider and adopt a proposal to amend the 2001 Sanpete County Land Use Ordinance by adopting an Excavation Notice to Mitigate Flood Potential Ordinance.
The public hearing will be held on the 7th day of May, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., in the Sanpete County Courthouse in Manti, Utah in the County Commission chambers.
The addition of the Excavation Notice to Mitigate Flood Potential Ordinance is proposed as a result of the Wood Hollow Fire and surrounding area that destroyed vegetation which leads to increased flood potential.
The Ordinance requires property owners who live within the fire and adjacent areas to contact the Sanpete County Zoning/Building Inspection Office to describe any excavation, of whatever scope, to arrange a site inspection prior to the excavation to determine what effects may result in any surrounding waterways, canals or gullies. The area affected can be found by viewing a map available in the Sanpete County Zoning Office.
If the excavation materially affects surrounding waterways, canals or gullies, the property owner will be required to appear before the Sanpete County Commission. The overall purpose of the Ordinance is to better coordinate efforts between property owners, Sanpete County and cooperating agencies to control potential flooding.
To view the proposed Excavation Notice to Mitigate Flood Potential Ordinance and map of affected area, contact Scott Olsen at the Sanpete County Zoning Office in Manti, Utah (835-2113).
Dated this 20th day of March, 2013.
